The Ritual of Passage in English

The Ritual of Passage: Arriving in Australia - The land of dreams and realisations.

My experience in Australia, started a long time ago, in a time when surfing was the main attraction to Brazilians. After 30 years, the demography that nowadays Australia attracts, change the profile. Better saying, increased the options and opportunities for people from all walks of life. Now, Brazilians of all tribes and lifestyles, “discovered” Australia.

During the time I lived here, I could notice several meaningful changes, and maybe the greatest one, was the change from an isolated country, where people would need to create their own fun, transforming itself in a cosmopolitan and vibrant society, where only 38% of the population was born in the land, while 62% arrived here by plane. In other words: it is a land of migrants. Simple as that. It is a place where people arrive hopeful for a better life.

However, possibilities can increase or decrease accordingly to each one’s attitude. In my Australian experience, I could notice positive and negative behaviours and the aim of the

Exchange with purpose is to guide and indicate what to do (and don’t do) to live it up this fantastic experience! Whatever the main reason: studying, work, live or migrate! Destiny depends on opportunities and it is a privilege to be in a country with so many.

To symbolize the arrival in Australia, we have created a Ritual of Passage, a symbol to support the realisation of this great transformation just about to begin. Through a walking tour, we will cross by foot the iconic Harbour Bridge, in direction to the famous Sydney Opera House, throughout the historic The Rocks, location of the first settlement in Australia.

The tour will take approximately 3 hours, where the students will be immersed in this new reality, acquiring important notions of culture, history, the natural environment and curiosities.
